Located in a quiet residential area of Hamada, Akita City, this single-story wooden house was built in 1963. Constructed during Japan’s period of rapid economic growth, the building reflects the postwar shift in lifestyles and the tradition of live-work environments in regional communities, having originally operated as a neighborhood beauty salon. Characteristic features of mid-century rural Japanese housing remain well preserved: a sequence of tatami rooms in true-post construction, a tokonoma alcove, finely grained wooden plank ceilings, and a veranda-like glazed corridor that visually and spatially connects the interior to the garden, creating a strong sense of horizontality and openness.

In this project, the property was acquired and carefully reintroduced to the market through minimal intervention—limited to the removal of remaining contents and thorough cleaning, without renovation. The aged textures of materials and traces of everyday life were respected, while leaving flexibility for future adaptation. With approximately 90 m² on a single level and a circulating layout, the house offers comfortable residential use as well as potential for a studio, small shop, or dual-base living. It stands as an example of “minimal regeneration,” conveying the architectural culture and regional lifestyle of 1960s Japan into the present.

秋田市浜田の静かな住宅地に佇む、1963年築の木造平屋。高度経済成長期の只中に建てられた本建物は、戦後の生活様式の変化と地域職住一体の暮らしを背景に、美容室として地域に開かれた役割を担ってきました。当時の地方住宅に多く見られた平屋構成と真壁造の和室、床の間を備えた続き間、木目の美しい板張り天井、庭へと視線が抜けるガラス建具の縁側状廊下など、内外を緩やかにつなぐ水平性の高い空間構成が良好な状態で残されていた。

本プロジェクトでは建物を取得後、残置物撤去と室内クリーニングのみを実施し、過度な改装を行わず再販売しました。架構や素材が持つ経年の質感、生活の痕跡を尊重し、用途更新の余白を残したまま市場へ戻しています。約90㎡のゆとりある平屋は回遊性のある動線計画により、住居としての快適性に加え、アトリエや小規模店舗、二拠点居住など多様な使い方に適応可能です。1960年代の地域生活と建築文化を今に伝える、「最小限再生」の住宅実例です。
